Our approach is inspired by the great British designers alongside the New Perennial Movement — planting that values structure, seasonality, texture, and longevity.

 

We believe gardens should evolve beautifully through the year, offering interest well beyond a single moment of bloom. Our deep knowledge of perennial planting is grounded in practice. In the Pohangina Valley we created Awahou Gardens over a 12 year period, a four-acre flowering garden of perennials, old roses, woodlands and ponds, set within twelve acres of land. This garden became both a living laboratory and a source of inspiration, shaping the way we grow and select plants for performance in New Zealand conditions.

 

In 2013 we purchased and expanded Nikau Hill Nursery to supply specialist perennial stock to the trade. In 2018 we relocated to Ōtaki, reopening as Greenlife Perennials and continuing to work closely with landscape professionals nationwide. Today, under the name The Perennial Garden, we are establishing a new garden in Ōtaki. Our seasonal nursery shop offers a curated range of plants selected for durability, beauty, and long-term garden success. We welcome gardeners, designers, and plant lovers to explore our plants and build gardens designed to last.
